Mary is six months old! This year is flying by. She's so happy and lively and fun.

Here are the things that Mary loves:

• Listening to music

• People
• Bath time with Daddy
• Putting everything in her mouth
• Sleeping
• Eating
• Talking loudly
• Not wearing clothes
• Going for walks in her Baby Bjorn
• Patting the cats
• Sitting

Here are the things that Mary hates:

• Getting out of the bath
• Splashing herself in the face
• Being bored

Milestones this month:

• Learning how to sit
• Rolling from her back to her tummy
• Standing while holding onto the coffee table
• Dragging objects toward herself
• Pivoting around in a circle
• Doubling her birth weight
• Riding in her sled

Mary weighs 17 pounds and five ounces, nine pounds more than when she was born. She is 26 inches long, four inches more than when she was born.

What I Wore Sunday (2)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I was reading at 9 a.m. mass today so I set my alarm in case Mary didn't wake us up in time. But it wasn't necessary as she woke us up at 7 a.m. Peter was up late watching Formula 1 so he'll be going for a nap this afternoon!

Here is a picture of me in my greenest outfit:

I don't have a lot of green in my wardrobe, but I do have this absolutely gorgeous scarf that my mother-in-law gave me.

My dress is from Eddie Bauer (via the thrift store.) It is wool and it's so warm and lovely.
My shirt is from Ricki's.
My glorious scarf is from Indigo.

Here is a picture of Mary the Little Leprechaun:

The spectacular hat is also from my mother-in-law.

Mary's dress is very special. It used to belong to her Auntie Katie, Peter's sister, who died when she was about a month younger than Mary is now. The dress is almost 30 years old now and it is absolutely beautiful.

What I Wore Sunday (1)

We almost didn't make it to 9 a.m. mass this morning. We decided to let Mary sleep as long as she wanted so she woke up around 8 a.m. because of the time change. (She usually gets up around 7 a.m.)

I didn't think we could get to mass in time, but Peter took one for the team and didn't shower so he could get Mary ready. He even put her in a dress with tights. Peter hates tights! (He's even gone so far as to say he hopes our next baby is a boy so he doesn't have to wrangle with tiny baby tights anymore.)

Here is a picture of me in my Sunday finest:

My dress is from Poet (via the thrift store).
My shoes are from Geox.

Here is a picture of Mary in her Sunday finest:

Her shirt and dress are from Marks & Spencer.

Instead of getting a picture of Peter in all his un-showered glory, here is an unrelated picture of a bunch of cats eating:

Now we're going to watch Peter's alma mater win the Canadian national basketball championships for the ninth time followed by Peter's hometown team winning the national curling championships. (Paws crossed!)

Seven Quick Takes (30)

1. Mary had a big week this week! She gained six ounces and is now more than double her birth weight at a whopping 16 pounds 15 ounces. She also rolled over from her back to her front. And, best of all, she can kind of sit. Here is Mary in her gorilla pose, as Peter calls it:

2. I applied to the University of Manitoba earlier this week. I'm hoping I can finish my last year of law school in Winnipeg so Mary and I can stay with my in-laws and my mother-in-law can take care of the Cute Lute while I'm in class. Peter, sadly, will have to stay here and work. Because I've finished two years already, I would still graduate with a University of Ottawa degree. I really hope I get accepted!

3. Operation fashion overhaul is underway. My sister came over yesterday and helped me sort through my clothes. I realized that every nice item of clothing I own was either bought by my mother, made by my mother or bought by my mother-in-law. This has to change!

4. Mary went to her first hockey game earlier this week. She burst into tears as soon as she walked in because it was so loud, but then she calmed down and enjoyed all three hours of the game. I was very impressed by her stamina!

5. I was doing so well on my Lenten vow not to eat junk food until yesterday when I was out with some friends for coffee and they had carrot cake samples at the till. I completely forgot it was Lent! What a fail!

6. I just finished my first Prince George cat-sitting gig. It made me miss all my kitty friends in Ottawa . . . and human friends in Ottawa too.

7. I am lacking inspiration today, so enjoy these unrelated photos of a bunch of cats and Mary in a tutu:

2013 Goals Update

I set myself eight goals at the beginning of the year. Here's how I'm progressing so far:

• Do the Friday New York Times crossword puzzle every week.
I've finished the crossword every week, but I haven't been able to solve any without help yet. Maybe next month!

• Read 40 books.
I read four books in February to bring my total to a whopping seven. Not good, Carolynne. Not good.

• Make 30 new recipes.

I made seven new recipes this month, which brings me to 16 in total. I'm more than half-way there! This month's hits were: Peanut Butter and Jam Smoothies, Buffalo Chicken Quesadillas, Garlic Green Beans, Sausage Patties and Pita Chips.

• Give our house a thorough spring cleaning.
My mother has agreed to hang out with Mary during Spring Break so I can clean.

• Pay off some of our mortgage.
We're on track!

• Breastfeed Mary exclusively until she is six months old and then part-time until her first birthday.
We're on track!

• Sleep eight hours in a row at least once.
Mary sleeps for eight hours in a row regularly now, but I haven't yet. She gets a head-start by going to bed at 7 p.m.

• Finish my second-to-last semester of law school.
I am still planning to go back to school in September.

Seven Quick Takes (29)

1. Mary is very into music and not so much into books. She gets bored easily when I read to her. On a good day, we can read for 10 minutes at a time. But she can happily listen to music for hours. I've been playing her all sorts of different music on the satellite radio. Classical, opera, jazz, she loves it all!

2. I've decided to revamp my wardrobe. I want to start buying better quality clothes so they last longer and I look better and Mary will not be ashamed of me when she grows up. I know very little about fashion, but I can learn!

3. In slightly related news, I'm getting my hair cut on Monday for the first time since Mary was born. I am excited!

4. My mother, sister, Mary and I are going on a roadtrip to the Okanagan next month. I am going to visit my friends from Ottawa who now live in Kelowna. Our babies can be friends! It is going to be glorious.

5. Mary is going to her first hockey game tomorrow. Peter is doing the broadcasting for the pre-game, post-game and intermission shows so he'll be able to hang out with us during the actual game.

6. Here is Peter's most hilarious story of the week: Oils spills can benefit economy, panel told. One of the girls in my book club said it sounded like an Onion article.

7. Here are some recent photos of our little daughter, for your enjoyment:
